About Azad Hind Fauj
- The Azad Hind Fauj, or the India National Army (INA), was first established by Mohan Singh in 1942 to secure India's complete independence from the British Raj.
- However, the first INA, handed over to Rash Behari Bose and Mohan Singh, was disbanded in December of the same year due to differences between its leadership and the Japanese military over its role in Japan's war in Asia.
- The INA was handed over to Subhas Chandra Bose, who revived it on 21 October 1943 under his leadership after arriving in Southeast Asia.
- This army became part of Bose's government Arzi Hukumat-e-Azad Hind (Provisional Government of Independent India).
- However, the INA had come to be known as a puppet army of the Japanese Empire.
- INA mainly included ex-prisoners and Malaya and Burma civilian populations.
The Rani of Jhansi Regiment was one of the units of the Indian National Army (INA). This all-women regiment of INA was named for Rani Lakshmibai, the warrior queen of Jhansi who fought against British colonial rule in India in 1857.
