India to Host Two-Day BRICS Women's Working Group Meeting in Kochi.

India is hosting the BRICS Women’s Working Group Meeting in Kochi, Kerala, on July 6 and 7, 2026, as part of its BRICS Chairship for the year. Senior government officials from all 11 BRICS member countries have gathered for the two-day in-person meeting to deliberate on women's empowerment, women-led development, and cooperation across shared priorities.

BRICS Women Working Group Meeting 2026: Key Agenda

The meeting runs under India's BRICS chairship theme—"Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability." 

Four priority areas are on the table for discussion across the two days.

1. First, promoting women's participation in governance and leadership. 
2. Second, advancing digital and financial inclusion for women. 
3. Third, strengthening women's entrepreneurship and skill development. 
4. Fourth, enhancing the role of women in climate action, food security, and nutrition.

This isn't the first time these countries have sat down on these issues. Three virtual preparatory meetings were already held — on April 30, May 22, and June 29 — before this week's in-person deliberations in Kochi.

BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting Scheduled for July 8-9, 2026

The Kochi meeting feeds directly into a bigger moment. The BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting is lined up for July 8 and 9, 2026, where member countries are expected to formally reaffirm commitments toward women-led development across the bloc.

BRICS currently has 11 members — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE. Together they account for roughly 40% of global GDP and nearly 49.5% of the world's population, which makes women's political, social, and economic development a genuinely strategic priority for the grouping, not just symbolic.
