Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk conducted an official state visit to India from October 21 to 23, 2026, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A high-level delegation of over 100 business leaders accompanied the Polish Prime Minister.
The summit marked an important milestone in implementing the India-Poland Action Plan for 2024–2028. Both nations originally upgraded their bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Warsaw in August 2024.
The two leaders established an ambitious economic target to double bilateral trade by 2030. Prime Minister Modi urged Polish enterprises to invest in India's expanding manufacturing and technology corridors. Conversely, Prime Minister Tusk highlighted Poland's position as an economic gateway for Indian firms entering Central and Eastern Europe.
Both nations agreed to strengthen defense manufacturing ties following the 8th Joint Working Group on Defence meeting held in Warsaw in September 2026.
The leaders proposed establishing a Defence Industry Dialogue to drive joint military production, technology transfer, and co-development. Furthermore, both countries expect to finalize a bilateral agreement on the Mutual Protection and Exchange of Classified Information shortly.
India and Poland also reaffirmed their alignment under the India-EU Security and Defence Partnership, executed in January 2026.
To improve bilateral trade flows and movement of skilled personnel, civil aviation authorities will negotiate direct flight routes connecting major Indian and Polish cities.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) to build resilient global supply networks. Additionally, the two countries agreed to launch joint scientific research initiatives in polar affairs across Arctic and Antarctic stations.
Bilateral relations draw strength from deep historical ties. During the Second World War, Maharaja Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji of Nawanagar provided sanctuary to thousands of Polish women and children. The Jam Saheb Memorial Youth Exchange Programme continues to honor this historical connection.
Poland also assisted in evacuating over 2,000 Indian students from Ukraine during Operation Ganga.
