India had a double podium finish in the women’s 400m T47 event at the Asian Para Games 2026 on 22 October, 2026. Anjanaben Bumbadiya won gold and Jayanti Behera took silver.
Anjanaben ran the 400m T47 final against a field of four athletes. She finished first in 59.97 seconds and was the only runner in the race to complete the distance in under one minute. This clear gap helped her take the gold medal.
Jayanti Behera finished second with a time of 1:00.65, just under a second behind the winner. Her silver, along with Anjanaben’s gold, gave India two of the three medals in this event. Thailand’s Sasirawan Inthachot took bronze.
India’s medal count also grew through Tejalben Damor. She won silver in the women’s 400m T12 with a time of 57.60 seconds. She is a visually impaired athlete, and this was her second medal at the Games. She had earlier won bronze in the 200m T12 event.
In Para athletics, athletes are grouped into classes based on their type of impairment so that competition stays fair. The T47 class is for athletes who have an amputation below the elbow, a wrist amputation or a similar impairment affecting one upper limb.
The T12 class is for athletes with a visual impairment. In track events, “T” stands for track and the number shows the type and level of impairment. T12 covers athletes with moderate vision loss, and it sits between T11 (very little or no sight) and T13 (mildest impairment). T12 athletes may run with or without a guide runner.
