India is hosting the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting in Guwahati, Assam, on July 6 and 7, 2026. The meeting brings together heads of anti-drug agencies and senior officials from all 11 BRICS member countries. Hosted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the two-day gathering is part of India's BRICS Chairmanship 2026, themed "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability."
The Government of India will focus on three key priority areas in the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting.
Six thematic sessions are to be discussed over the two-day meeting. The sessions will focus:
The meeting will close with the adoption of a joint declaration.
India recently released its Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026–2029, pushing a whole-of-government approach that combines strict enforcement against trafficking networks with awareness campaigns and addiction treatment.
The Guwahati meeting gives India a platform to push cooperation beyond dialogue toward structured, action-oriented collaboration covering clandestine laboratory monitoring, synthetic drug trend sharing, precursor chemical tracking, joint training, and intelligence exchange.
The global drug landscape has shifted sharply — synthetic drugs, NPS, darknet trafficking, and cryptocurrency-based financial flows now define the challenge. BRICS nations together represent nearly 49.5% of the world's population, making coordinated enforcement not just useful but necessary.
