India wins seven medal at the Taiwan Athletics Open 2024

India wins seven medal at the Taiwan Athletics Open 2024 Person in News 3 min read

Indian athletes bagged seven medals -three golds, three silvers and one bronze to end their campaign at the Taiwan Athletics Open. The 2024 Taiwan Athletics Open is a World Athletics Continental Tour bronze event which was held at Taiwan's capital city Taipei.

Medal winner for India 

Gold Medal winner 

  • D.P. Manu won the first gold medal at the event for India in the javelin throw. His throw of 81.58 meters earned him the gold medal . However his throw was well short of the Paris Olympics qualification mark of 85.50 meters. Two Indians -Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena have already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
  • Nayana James of Kerala won the gold medal in the women’s long jump. Nayana jumped a distance of 6.43 meters to finish ahead of the current Asian champion, Japan’s Sumire Hata . The Japanese won the silver medal, while  Yu Jeongmi of the Republic of Korea got the bronze medal.
  • Ankesh Chaudhary won the gold medal in men’s 800 meters while another Indian, Somnath Chauhan, won the silver medal.

Silver Medal winner

  • Somnath Chauhan won the silver medal in the men’s 800 meters event behind the gold winner Ankush Chaudhary..
  • Dev Meena won the silver medal in the men’s pole vault with a 5.10 meter jump. Yong fu Huang of Chinese Taipei also had an identical jump of 5.10 meter but was awarded the gold medal due to fewer goals than Dev Meena. 
  • Nithya Ramraj won another silver medal for India in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. The gold medal was won by the former world champion and Olympic silver medallist, Nia Ali of the United States of America.

Bronze medals winner

V.K. Vismaya, who was a member of the gold-winning women’s 4x400m team at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, clocked a season-best 53.49s to take the women’s 400m bronze.
