Brazil has won the bid to host the 10th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, as it received the maximum votes at the FIFA Congress, held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 25 April 2025. It is the first time that a South American country is hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Australia and New Zealand jointly hosted the 9th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. It was won by Spain, defeating England in the final.
Football powerhouse Brazil had previously hosted the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014.
For the first time, the FIFA Congress, which represents FIFA's member countries, voted to decide the host of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Earlier, the FIFA Council, the highest decision-making body of FIFA, used to decide the host of the World Cup.
In Bangkok, there were only two bidders: Brazil and a joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Brazil secured the votes of 119 members, while the joint bid of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany received 78 votes.
Two hundred seven member countries of FIFA were eligible to vote at the FIFA Congress in Bangkok.
32 teams, including the host country, will participate in the 10th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.
FIFA organised the first Women's World Cup in 1991 in China. The World Cup is held every four years.
Five countries have won the World Cup: the USA (four times), Germany (two times), Norway, Japan, and Spain have won the trophy once.
