World Population Day 2026: Theme, Significance, and the Most Populated Countries.
Updated: 03 Jul 2026
2 Min Read

World Population Day falls on July 11 every year, and 2026 is no different. The day is observed globally to draw attention to population-related issues from reproductive health and family planning to gender equality and the pressures of a growing global population. This year, the United Nations has put young people front and center, calling on governments and institutions to invest in the young generation already reshaping the world.
Across India, health organisations, educational institutions, and government bodies mark the day with events touching on several key themes.
This year's theme — "Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world" — draws directly from the promises made at the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development. Despite facing economic uncertainty, gender inequality, climate pressures, and conflict, young people are leading conversations on rights, justice, and sustainability.
India is one of the most populated countries, followed by China, the USA, and Indonesia.
