Union Health Minister JP Nadda released the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Operational Guidelines on June 29, 2026, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, during the 16th Meeting of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare. The release marks eight years of the Anemia Mukt Bharat program and signals a serious shift in how India plans to tackle anemia going forward.

Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Operational Guidelines: Key Changes

The biggest structural change? The old 6x6x6 strategy has been upgraded to a 7x7x7 framework. Three new layers have been added:

1. The seventh beneficiary group brings in low-birth-weight babies aged 0–6 months, targeting the intergenerational cycle of anemia right at its root. 
2. The seventh intervention is the "Eating Right" approach, nudging people toward iron-rich, diversified diets as a daily habit rather than a medical afterthought.
3. And the seventh institutional mechanism is a digitally integrated monitoring and evaluation system to keep the whole program accountable end-to-end.
4. The care approach also shifts from T3 — Test, Treat, Talk — to T4, adding Track into the mix. That means beneficiaries don't just get treated; they're followed up systematically. For severe cases among pregnant and lactating women, intravenous iron therapy using ferric carboxymaltose and iron sucrose is now a standard clinical option.

Digital Infrastructure Behind the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Portal

A unified AMB Abhiyaan Portal will pull together data from three existing platforms, JANANI for maternal screening, RBSK for child health, and U-WIN for immunization tracking, into one real-time system.

The broader mission runs on a "Whole of Government" model, pairing inter-ministerial coordination with Jan Bhagidari and Jan Chetna campaigns to make anemia socially unacceptable across communities. The end goal ties directly to reducing the infant mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio nationwide.
