Shri Arjun Munda, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, launched Adi Vyakhyan, a two-day tribal orientation workshop, in New Delhi. This is a project to investigate tribal identity and tribal contributions to the nation's cultural diversity. The Minister emphasised the government's efforts for the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), including the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) project for tribal upliftment.
Adi Vyakhyan
- Adi Vyakhyan is a programme organised by the National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI).
- It seeks to get a better knowledge of the complexity of tribal customs and culture, as well as to investigate the threats to their survival.
- The Adi Vyakhyan will familiarise tribal communities with India's statistical input and constitutional safeguards in order to unravel the nuances of the Panchayats (Extension of Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996, the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, and the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act, 1989.
Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG)
- The PVTG, or Particularly Vulnerable Tribal groupings, are the most vulnerable tribal groupings.
- The Indian government has classified PVTGs as a primitive tribe in order to facilitate the provision of services through various policies and actions.
- The Dhebar Commission was the first to identify the PVTGs in India in 1973.
- The Indian government rebranded the PTGs as PVTGs in 2006.
- PVTGs have been found in 18 states and the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
- Odisha has the largest number (15) of PVTGs among the 75 listed.
Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN)
- On November 29, 2023, the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) was approved by the Union cabinet.
- On Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, the Prime Minister announced the Mission from Khunti in Jharkhand.
Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day)
- The Union Cabinet named Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on November 15, 2021, during a meeting on November 10, 2021.
- The announcement of the day was made in honour of Jharkhand's Tribal Freedom Fighter, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who was born in Ulihatu Village.
- Birsa Munda's birth anniversary is also celebrated on 15 November.
- A tribal freedom fighters museum will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
