Indian Junior Hockey Team Won Bronze Medal In 11th Sultan Johor Cup

The Indian junior men's hockey team won the bronze medal by defeating Pakistan 3-3 (6-5 SO) in the penalty shootout in a tight 3rd/4th place match at the 11th Sultan Johor Cup on 4 November 2023.
In this exciting match, Arun Sahni, Poovanna CB and captain Uttam Singh scored for India, while Sufiyan Khan, Abdul Qayyum and captain Shahid Hannan scored for Pakistan. Both the teams were tied at 3-3 in the stipulated time.
In the penalty shootout, India's goalkeeper Mohit HS played the role of a brilliant keeper and the match went in favor of India with a 6-5 shootout.
India won the Johor Bahru Cup three times:
The Indian junior men's hockey team won the final of the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022 by defeating Australia in October 2022. This was the junior men's hockey team's third Johor Bahru title.
Earlier, the Indian team had won Johor Bahru twice (2013 and 2014).
The Indian hockey team also reached the final of the last edition in 2019 but lost 2-1 to Great Britain.
India had finished second in this age group tournament four times in 2012, 2015, 2018 and in the last edition in 2019.
The tournament was canceled in 2020 & 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
11th Sultan of Johor Cup held:
The 11th Sultan of Johor Cup 2023 was held in Johor, Malaysia from 27 October to 4 November 2023. A total of eight teams participated in this year's edition, expanded from the traditional six. India had been placed in Pool B in this year's Sultan of Johor Cup.
Germany won the gold medal of the 11th Sultan of Johor Cup:
Germany won the 11th Sultan of Johor Cup gold medal by defeating Australia 3-1 in the penalty shootout in the final match.
The Indian junior hockey team had to face defeat by 3-6 at the hands of Germany in the semi-finals.
India and Great Britain have won gold medals in this tournament a maximum three times each.
The Indian team led by Uttam Singh will now play in the FIH Junior World Cup. This Junior Hockey World Cup will be played in Kuala Lumpur from 5 to 16 December 2023.
