Chakshu portal launched: Now bank fraud will be curbed Science and Technology 4 min read

The government launched the 'Chakshu Portal' under the 'Sanchar Sathi' initiative on March 4, 2024, to combat cyber fraud. This platform was formally launched on the government portal SancharSathi.gov.

  • IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that things suspected to be fraud can be reported to Chakshu. Chakshu enables reporting of leaked mobile numbers from business institutions.
  • Chakshu' and 'Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP)' will integrate with the Sanchar Saathi portal. This will help in quick sharing of intelligence among various stakeholders.

'Chakshu' Platform Filing Complaint:

  • The Suspected Fraud Communication Report System is provided on Chakshu. Citizens can provide information about fraudulent phone or WhatsApp calls and messages through this platform.
  • Citizens can upload screenshots of fraudulent activities as well. They will have to write down the time, date and other available information of the call or message. Personal details such as name and phone number will be required for reporting.
  • An OTP will be sent to the provided phone number for complaint registration.

Telecom Services Department saved Rs 1000 crore for citizens:

  • Through digital measures, DoT has saved citizens approximately Rs 1000 crore in the last nine months. Additionally, Rs 1,008 crore linked to fraudulent transactions in various bank accounts have been seized.
  • Items suspected to be fraud may be reported to Chakshu. Report mobile numbers leaked by business institutions through this platform as well. Appropriate action will be taken against the culprits reported.

One crore mobile numbers linked to malicious activities blocked:

  • The complaint received on the Chakshu platform will be investigated and the culprits will be caught and action will be taken. Spam callers and suspicious phone numbers will be blocked accordingly. This initiative is expected to aid the government in promptly addressing cyber threats.
  • One crore mobile numbers linked to malicious activities have been disconnected in the last nine months.

Launch of Digital Intelligence Platform:

  • Government launches Digital Intelligence Platform for secure information sharing among departments and organizations.
  • This will improve mutual coordination between various departments. This will help the following important agencies:
    • Telecommunication Service Providers
    • Law Enforcement Agencies
    • Banks and Financial Institutions
    • Social Media Platform
    • Identity Card Issuing Agency.
  • This platform will be exclusively for concerned departments and agencies, not for common citizens' use.
