Continuing her medal-winning spree in the 2024 Paris Olympics, shooter Manu Bhaker teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to win the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team shooting event.

In the bronze medal match held on 30 July 2024 at the National Shooting Center in Chateauroux, Paris, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh defeated the South Korean pair of Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee 16-10.

Paris is hosting the 33rd Summer Olympics from 26 July to 11 August 2024. India has sent a strong 21-member shooting contingent to the Paris Olympics.

Historic Medal for Bhaker and Sarabjot 

  • For the first time, India won a medal in a mixed event of shooting in the Olympics.
  • This was the second medal for Manu Bhaker, while it was the first Olympic medal for Sarabjot Singh.
  • The team of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh came third in the qualifying round behind Turkiye’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan-Yusuf Dikec and Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic-Damir Mikec.
  • The Serbian pair of Zorana Arunovic-Damir Mike won the gold medal, while the Turkiye pair had to settle for a silver medal.
  • In the 10m air pistol mixed team shooting event top two teams from the competing  17 teams qualified for the gold medal match, while the third and fourth-placed teams played for bronze.

Records made by Manu Bhaker in the Olympics 

  • Earlier, on 28 July 2024, Manu Bhaker became the first Indian women shooter to win a medal—bronze in the 10-meter air pistol event.
  • She is also the first Indian after independence to win two medals in the same edition of the Olympics. 
  • Earlier, Norman Pritchard won two medals in the 1900 Paris Olympics: silver medals in the men’s 200-meter race and  200-meter hurdles.  
  • Manu Bhaker will compete in the women's 25 m pistol event, which gives her a chance to add one more medal to her tally.

Sixth Shooting Medal for India in the Olympics

  • So far, India has won six medals in shooting in the history of the Olympics. 
  • So far, twice Indian shooters have won two medals in a single edition of the Olympics. 
  • Before the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Indian shooter had won two medals at the 2012 London Olympics. 
  • Gagan Narang won a silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event, while  Vijay Kumar won a bronze in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event.
