Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus in Bengaluru. 

  • The Prime Minister also launched the Boeing Sukanya Program to encourage more girls from India to join the aviation sector.

What is BIETC?

Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) is the new state-of-the-art aircraft manufacturing campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka. 

  • This 43-acre campus is Boeing's largest investment outside the USA, built with a whopping sum of Rs 1,600 crores.
  • The new campus aims to become a cornerstone for partnerships with startup, private, and government ecosystems in India. 
  • It will help develop next-generation products and services for the global aerospace and defense industry.

About Boeing Sukanya Program

The newly launched Boeing Sukanya Programme has the potential to increase our nation’s daughters' participation in India's aviation sector.

  • The program aims to provide young girls and women across India with opportunities to learn essential skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and train for jobs in the aviation industry.
  • To spark interest in STEM careers, the program will create STEM labs at 150 planned locations. The program will also provide scholarships to women who are undergoing pilot training.

Boeing is an American aircraft company that designs, manufactures and delivers some of the most advanced airplanes, jets, and helicopters in the world. 

  • It was founded by William Boeing in Seattle, Washington on July 15, 1916.
  • Tata-Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) has delivered the AH-64 Apache fuselage for the Indian Army from their advanced facility in Hyderabad. 

Apache is the most advanced multi-role combat helicopter in the world. It is reported that the Army is planning to induct the first lot of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from February 2024 onwards. 

  • Boeing is committed to partnering with the Indian armed forces to increase demand for aircraft in the defense sector and contribute to the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
