Chief Minister Hemant Soren unveiled the mascot- Juhi and the trophy of Asian Women's Hockey Championship in Ranchi

  • Around 13 countries will take part in the international hockey championship beginning from October 27 to November 14 in Ranchi. 
  • On the occasion, Mr. Soren thanked Mohd Taiyab Ekram, President of International Hockey Association and Mr Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India to organize the international sporting event in Jharkhand.
  • Mascot 'Juhi' is a Symbol of Jharkhand's Rich Heritage and draws its inspiration from the iconic elephant at Betla National Park. 

About Asian Women's Hockey Championship

  • The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, in its seventh edition, will be held in India for the first time. It is also the first international hockey tournament hosted by Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.
  • The top six Asian teams – Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand and India - will feature in the seventh edition.
  • The previous edition of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey was held in Donghae, Korea in 2021. Japan defeated Korea 2-1 in the final to win their second title.
  • For the record, the Indian women’s hockey team has reached the Asian Champions Trophy final thrice but won it just once in 2016.

  • The Women's FIH Hockey World Cup will be held at Wavre, Belgium & Amstelveen, Netherlands in 2026.

Women's FIH Hockey World Cup

  • The Women's FIH Hockey World Cup is the premier field hockey competition for women. The format for qualification and the final tournament is similar to that of the men's competition. 
  • The tournament has been held since 1974 and has been organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) since they merged with the International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA) in 1982. 
  • It is held regularly once every four years since 1986, in the same year as the men's competition. This event takes place mid-cycle between Summer Olympic games.
