Harvinder Singh became the first Indian para-athlete to win a gold medal in the para-archery event at the Paralympics Games. He won a gold medal in the men's individual recurve open event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
In the Men’s Club throw, Dharambir and Pranav Soorma won gold and silver medals, respectively.
So far, India has won 27 medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics 2024, with six golds, nine silvers and 12 bronze.
It is the highest medal won by Indian para-athletes in a single edition of the Paralympic Games. India won 19 medals in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, with five gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals.
2020 Tokyo Paralympics bronze medalist Harvinder Singh won the gold in the Paris Paralympics. He defeated Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek 6-0 in the final to clinch the gold medal in the men's individual recurve open event.
This was India's second medal in para archery after Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar won the bronze medal in the mixed compound open archery event.
Dharambir and Pranav Soorma won the gold and silver medals in the men’s club throw F51 class event, respectively. This was the first time India had bagged the first and second spot in any athletic event at a Paralympics Games.
Praveen Kumar won India's sixth gold medal in the High Jump T 64 event. Parveen had won a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
In the Paris Paralympics, he set an Asian record of 2.08 meters to clinch the gold medal. Praveen Kumar is the third Indian jumper to win a medal at the Paris Games after Sharad won a silver and Mariyappan won a bronze medal in the high jump T63.
Kapil Parmar became the first Indian to win a medal in the judo event at the Paralympics. He won a bronze medal in the men’s 60 kg J1 Class by defeating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira. It was the 25th medal for India at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
The 17th Paralympic Games, which started in Paris, France on 28 August, will end on 8 September.
So far, the Indian contingent has won 27 medals- 6 gold,9 silver and 12 bronze.
