PM Modi Conferred with Bintang Adipurna, Indonesia's Highest Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Indonesia's highest honor, the Bintang Adipurna, in Jakarta on 7th July 2026, Tuesday, during his three-day visit to Indonesia that began on 6th July, Monday, 2026. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred the award on PM Modi at a ceremony ahead of their joint press statement, where Prime Minister Modi was seen wearing the star and sash of the award.

PM Modi became the Second Indian PM After Nehru to Receive Bintang Adipurna

Modi has become only the second Indian prime minister to receive this honor. Jawaharlal Nehru was the first, awarded the Bintang Adipurna in 1995, when Indonesia marked its 50th year of independence. 

In 1995, three other Indians, Biju Patnaik and former ambassadors P.R.S. Mani and Mohd. Yunus, received the Bintang Jasa Utama from Jakarta.

This Indonesian honor is Modi's 33rd international award. Earlier this year he received the Royal Order of the Polar Star from Sweden, and last month Seychelles declared him "Guardian of the Blue Horizon." Between June 2024 and July 2025 alone, he received at least 13 international honors.

What is the Bintang Adipurna Award?

First instituted in 1959, the Bintang Adipurna, or Medal of Honor, is the Republic of Indonesia's highest civilian distinction. It is the top class of the Bintang Republik Indonesia award, with the president of Indonesia serving as its grandmaster. The honor is given to individuals for exceptional service toward the unity, continuity, and prosperity of Indonesia.
