According to the ICC ranking released on 3 July 2024, Hardik Pandya was ranked No.1 along with Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga. Hardik's strong performance in the Indian team's World Cup-winning campaign at the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 earned him valuable points, making him the first Indian to achieve this distinction.
In the recently concluded 9th ICCMen’s World Cup in West Indies and the USA, Hardik scored 144 runs at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 151 while also bagging 11 wickets.
His most important contribution was in the final against South Africa when he took the wicket of Heinrich Klassen, which swung the match in India's favour. He bowled the last over of the final match and defended 16 runs to help India win the World Cup by seven runs. He finished the match with 3 for 20 in his 4 overs.
His best batting performance was against Bangladesh, when he scored 50 runs, not out of 27 balls.
Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took 10 wickets in the World Cup, moved three positions to be ranked number eight among the bowlers.
Arshdeep Singh, joint highest wicket-taker in the World Cup with Fazalhaq Farooqi of Afghanistan, moved to a career-best 13 position. Arshdeep took 17 wickets in the World Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah, the player of the series in the World Cup, moved 12 places to occupy 12th rank in the ICC ranking. Bumrah took 15 wickets in the tournament.
Mumbai Indian captain Hardik Pandya is the sixth Indian player to have occupied the ICC No.1 ranking in the T20I. Gautam Gambir, Virat Kohli and Surya Kumar Yadav were ranked ICC NO.1 Batsman in T20I. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi have been ranked No.1 in the bowlers category, while Hardik Pandya has been ranked in the all-rounder category.
