Sarvam AI Becomes India’s 130th Unicorn After $234 Million Funding

Sarvam AI, an Indian full-stack sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup, raised USD 234 million (approximately ₹2,210 crore) in a Series B funding round, becoming India's 130th unicorn.

Following this, the company's valuation has reached USD 1.5 billion, making it the only AI startup in India to achieve this milestone.

With this latest funding round, Sarvam AI became the fifth startup to join India's unicorn club in 2026, following KreditBee, Neysa, Juspay, and Aerospace.

Sarvam plans to primarily utilize the new capital for its research and development activities. This includes enhancing next-generation AI models, with a specific focus on agentic AI, coding, and cybersecurity applications.

The company also intends to significantly expand its compute infrastructure. Furthermore, it aims to scale up AI deployments across various sectors to strengthen its market presence and operational reach.

Key Investors in Sarvam AI

HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners led this funding round, with participation from existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.

Under this deal, HCL Technologies Limited (HCLTech) will acquire a minority stake (10.46%) in Sarvam AI for ₹1,427.25 crore (approximately USD 150 million).

Founded in 2023 by Pratyush Kumar and Vivek Raghavan, Sarvam AI specializes in building models, infrastructure, and enterprise products.

Its operations span language, speech, vision, and document AI technologies. Sarvam serves a diverse range of clients across key sectors such as banking, insurance, government, and defense. The startup claims that its conversational AI platform manages over 2 million interactions daily.

Additionally, its inference platform processes more than 10 million API calls each day. The company has recorded a significant rise in the usage of both platforms in recent months, reflecting their growing adoption.
