Ekana Stadium to host  five matches of ICC World Cup 2023 Sport 4 min read

According to Yudhveer Singh, Director, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium of Lucknow was selected to host five World Cup matches after inspection done by  International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Ekana Stadium has got the hosting of five matches of the World Cup for the first time. The match between India and champions England on 29 October is also included.

Ekana International stadium 

  • The Ekana cricket stadium is the state-of-the-art stadium aimed to take sports standards of Uttar Pradesh to the next level. The design, innovation & grandeur makes a huge impact on the face of the city, making it one of its kind in the country.

  • The International Level Ekana Cricket Stadium is another fitting tribute to the city of sport and a major thrust over the years will be to make it incomparable in terms of sporting variety, excellence and to offer world class facilities to sportsperson and the spectators

  • The 50,000-seater International stadium will be among the most advanced of its kind, with next-generation facilities for players, officials, VIPs, spectators and the media. 

  • The design of this one of its kind stadium follows the guidelines and specifications laid out by ICC and BCCI for hosting international cricket matches.

About BCCI

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body of Cricket in India. Its headquarters is situated at the Cricket centre in Churchgate, Mumbai. 
  • The BCCI was formed in December 1928 and is a consortium of state cricket associations that select their own representatives who elect the BCCI president. Grant Govan was the first BCCI president and Anthony De Mello was its first secretary.  
  • As of February 2023, Roger Binny is the incumbent BCCI president and Jay Shah is secretary

About ICC

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England and South Africa. It was renamed as the International Cricket Conference in 1965, and took up its current name in 1987. The ICC has its headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
