According to Yudhveer Singh, Director, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium of Lucknow was selected to host five World Cup matches after inspection done by International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Ekana Stadium has got the hosting of five matches of the World Cup for the first time. The match between India and champions England on 29 October is also included.
The Ekana cricket stadium is the state-of-the-art stadium aimed to take sports standards of Uttar Pradesh to the next level. The design, innovation & grandeur makes a huge impact on the face of the city, making it one of its kind in the country.
The International Level Ekana Cricket Stadium is another fitting tribute to the city of sport and a major thrust over the years will be to make it incomparable in terms of sporting variety, excellence and to offer world class facilities to sportsperson and the spectators
The 50,000-seater International stadium will be among the most advanced of its kind, with next-generation facilities for players, officials, VIPs, spectators and the media.
The design of this one of its kind stadium follows the guidelines and specifications laid out by ICC and BCCI for hosting international cricket matches.
