The Indian Women’s Hockey team has arrived in Oman to take part in the Women's Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier . Three top teams from Asia participating in the qualifier will qualify for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup to be held in Oman in January 2024.
Women's Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier will be held from from 25th to 28th August in Salalah, Oman.
India has been placed in the Elite Pool along with Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand.
The Challengers Pool, consists of Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, and Oman.
The Indian women hockey team is led by captain Navjot Kaur and Jyoti will be the Vice Captain. The Indian Women’s Hockey Team Coach is Soundarya Yendala.
The first FIH Hockey5s World Cup for both men and women will be held in Oman from 24-31 January 2024. In this competition only five players are allowed to play for a side. Normally 11 players are allowed in a hockey match.16 teams will be competing in both men’s and women’s tournaments at the World Cup.
The whole world has been divided into 5 zones ; Africa, Pan America , Europe, Oceania and Asia . 16 teams will participate in the world cup including the host Oman .
Already 13 teams including host Oman have qualified for the world cup.
