India’s largest commercial bank, the State Bank of India, was conferred with the Company of the Year award at the ET Award for Corporate Excellence 2023.
The ET Award for Corporate Excellence 2023 ceremony was held in Mumbai on 15 March 2024. At this event, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was the guest of honour.
The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence is sponsored by India’s leading financial newspaper, the Economic Times. The award recognises and honours the best and brightest in entrepreneurial and business success and policy and reform achievements.
The Winners in the various segments were selected by a seven-member Jury headed by Tata Sons chairman N.Chandrasekaran.
Reformer of the Year: S. Jaishankar
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was awarded the Reformer of the Year award. He was chosen for his leadership in steering India's trade and economic diplomacy throughout the year amid multiple geopolitical uncertainties.
Company of the Year: State Bank of India
India’s largest commercial bank, State Bank of India, was chosen for its spectacular turnaround from a loss-making company.
Lifetime Achievement: AM Naik, Chairman Emeritus, Larsen & Toubro
The jury cited AM Naik's role in building the Larsen and Toubro group as a leading conglomerate in India with a presence in defence, manufacturing, technology, and construction.
Global Indian of the Year: Leena Nair, CEO, Chanel
Leena Nair is the first person of Indian origin to be appointed as the global CEO of the world's second-largest luxury brand, Chanel. Chanel is a multinational company based in France.
Business Leader of the Year: CK Venkataraman, MD, Titan
CK Venkataraman was honoured for his crucial role in transforming Titan from a brick-and-mortar business model to a retail venture that includes a combination of offline and online stores. He has played a key role in Titan's transformation into a consumer lifestyle brand.
Entrepreneur of the Year: Ramesh Juneja, Chairman, Mankind Pharma & Rajeev Juneja, VC & MD, Mankind Pharma
Ramesh C Juneja and Rajeev Juneja co-founded Mankind Pharma in 1991. The company is the fourth largest pharmaceutical company in domestic branded formulations.
Businesswoman of the Year: Hina Nagarajan, CEO & MD, Diageo India
Hina Nagarajan is the first woman in the country to head the biggest liquor company.
Conscious Corporate of the Year: HDFC Bank
India’s largest private sector bank was selected as the Conscious Corporate of the Year for using its Rs 800 crore corporate social responsibility (CSR) corpus for community development. The jury also recognised the bank for its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and Climate Change Assessment framework as part of the overall credit assessment for its 1,400+ corporate borrowers.
Emerging Company of the Year: Adani Green Energy Ltd
Adani Green Energy Ltd is in the renewable energy business. Last year, Adani Transmission won the award.
