India has emerged as the third-largest arms exporter to Europe, according to Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Driven by expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities and global geopolitical demand, India’s annual defense exports reached an all-time record of ₹38,424 crore (approximately €3.6 billion).
The European Union’s ‘ReArm Europe’ initiative has significantly increased regional demand for military hardware. Indian defense manufacturers have filled critical supply chain gaps by exporting standard NATO-caliber ammunition, 155mm artillery shells, and tactical protective gear across European nations.
The European Union launched the 'ReArm Europe' framework to replenish defense stockpiles and build industrial readiness. Indian defense production facilities have effectively integrated into these European supply chains.
Beyond Europe, buyers in Southeast Asia show growing interest in Indian-made small arms, artillery systems, and naval patrol craft components. Overall, India now exports military technology to more than 80 countries.
To sustain long-term growth, the Indian government plans to expand defense industrial partnerships with European defense prime contractors.
The strategy encourages European Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to set up production facilities in India under the Make in India initiative. These joint ventures aim to co-develop modern platforms, co-produce specialized components, and transfer critical dual-use technologies.
