National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) 2026 falls on Saturday, 31 October. It marks the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, independent India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. The day reminds every citizen of the importance of staying united.
The cultural theme this year is Vande Mataram, because the national song is completing 150 years. Several new features of the parade are inspired by it. The celebrations also give importance to a drug-free India and mark the end of armed Naxalism in the country. The linked festival, Bharat Parv, runs under the message “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan said the event has two aims. The first is to show the country the work done by the police and central forces. The second is to invite people from all states to visit Ekta Nagar and see the world’s tallest statue, which has become a major tourist spot.
The day promotes unity, integrity, peace, and harmony among people of different languages, religions, and cultures. It teaches that unity in diversity means respecting every tradition while sharing one national identity. Schools, colleges, and government offices mark it with speeches, pledges, and educational activities.
When India became independent in 1947, it had British-ruled provinces and hundreds of princely states. Joining them into one nation was a big challenge. Patel handled it through talks, diplomacy and firm leadership, with help from officials such as V. P. Menon. The Government of India started Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in 2014 to honour his work and to renew the promise to protect the nation’s unity, integrity and security.
Bharat Parv is a national cultural and arts festival held at Ekta Nagar from 1 to 15 November 2026. It celebrates India’s diversity and culture under the theme “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the celebrations in Kevadia, Gujarat, and watch the Ekta Diwas Parade. The most important feature this year is the celebration of the end of armed Naxalism, along with the strength and discipline of the police and paramilitary forces.
