Every year on 23 December, ‘National Farmer’s Day’ (Rashtriya Kisan Diwas) is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. This day is celebrated to honour and appreciate the Farmers across the country for their contribution to society.

History of National Farmer’s Day:
- The tradition of celebrating National Farmer's Day started in 2001. In this way, the first National Farmer's Day was celebrated on 23 December 2001.
- It was started to honour former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh's love for agriculture and farmers.
About Chaudhary Charan Singh:
- Former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902 in Noorpur village in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. Chaudhary Charan Singh was brought up in a middle-class farmer family.
- Shri Singh graduated in science in 1923 and obtained a master's degree from Agra University in 1925.
- Chaudhary Charan Singh, trained in law, started his profession in Ghaziabad. He joined Congress in 1929.
- Shri Singh was first elected to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from Chhaprauli in 1937.
- He represented his constituency in the Legislative Assembly in 1946, 1952, 1962 and 1967.
- In June 1951, he was appointed as a cabinet minister of the state and given charge of the Justice and Information departments. In 1952, he became the Minister of Revenue and Agriculture in the cabinet of Dr. Sampurnanand.
- Chaudhary Charan Singh became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice for short periods. He was the Chief Minister for the first time from 03 April 1967 to 25 February 1968. For the second time, he was the Chief Minister from 18 February 1970 to 1 October 1970. However, the President's rule was imposed in the state on 2 October 1970.
- Full credit for land reforms in Uttar Pradesh goes to him. He had a key role in drafting the Departmental Debt Relief Bill 1939, which provided relief to rural debtors.
- As Chief Minister, he also had an important role in bringing the Land Holding Act, 1960.
- Chaudhary Charan Singh also served as the Prime Minister of India between July 28, 1979 and January 14, 1980.
- Chaudhary Charan Singh died on 29 May 1987.

- Kisan Credit Card Scheme: It was started by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in 1998.
- Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana: Was started on February 24, 2019 from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
- Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana: On January 13, 2016, a new scheme Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
