Famous music artist Ustad Rashid Khan died on 9 January 2024 at 55. Rashid Khan was cremated on 10 January. Ustad Rashid Khan was battling prostate cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Peerless Hospital, Kolkata, for some time.

  • Rashid Khan received his early training from his maternal grandfather, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan.

About Ustad Rashid Khan:

  • Ustad Rashid Khan was born in 1968 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.
  • He was the great-grandson of Inayat Hussain Khan, the founder of the Badaun Gharana.
  • According to information received from Rashid Khan's official website, the Padma Shri awardee has been described as a '31st generation descendant of Miyan Tansen'.
  • Rashid Khan performed his first concert when he was only 11 years old. At 26, the ITC Music Research Academy recognised him as a composer. In 1978, he performed on stage at the ITC concert in Delhi.
  • Khan attempted to blend classical Hindustani music with lighter musical styles. Additionally, Rashid Khan engaged in experimental collaborations, including concerts with Western instrumentalist Louis Banks.
  • Rashid Khan shared the stage with sitarist Shahid Parvez and many other musicians.

Awards and Honors received by Rashid Khan:

  • In the year 2022, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
  • Apart from this, Rashid Khan was also awarded the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award.
  • Rashid Khan was also awarded Bengal's highest civilian award, Banga Vibhushan and Sangeet Mahasamman.
  • Rashid Khan was also honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
