The India-UAE Joint Military Exercise Mountain Guardian 2026 has begun at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. It will run from 5 to 18 October 2026 and focuses on mountain warfare. The aim is to enhance interoperability, mutual understanding, and cooperation, with a focus on Mountain Warfare.
A total of 92 soldiers are participating, with an equal number from each country. The Indian Army has sent troops from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE Army has sent a Mountain Infantry Battalion. Women officers and combatants from both armies are also taking part in specialist roles.
The soldiers will plan missions together and practise tactical drills and firing. They will also take part in integrated field exercises that bring all these skills together in realistic situations.
Troops will set up surveillance grids to keep watch over difficult terrain. Drone operations and other technology-based methods will also be used, as modern warfare depends heavily on such tools.
The training includes physical endurance sessions, rock climbing and obstacle courses. These build the strength and stamina needed to operate in high and rugged areas.
Both armies will exchange tactics, techniques and procedures useful for fighting in mountains.
The exercise gives both armies a chance to share professional experience and improve their tactical skills. Soldiers learn from each other's best practices and operational methods, which makes them better prepared for challenging terrain.
It also strengthens military-to-military cooperation between India and the UAE. Working side by side builds trust and friendship, which supports the wider partnership between the two nations.
