Indian Air Force Day 2026 will be observed on 8 October, marking the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The day honours the force's role in India's air defence and its help during natural disasters. This year, the celebrations are spread across Hindon, Jodhpur and Varanasi.
The main ceremony is at Hindon Air Force Station, with air shows planned at other locations.
The official parade and flypast will be held on 8 October at Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. It returns to Hindon after a gap of three years. A full-dress rehearsal was completed on 6 October. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh said the day is a time to review the past year and thank the veterans who built the force. In the Global Air Powers Ranking 2026, the IAF is ranked sixth.
The 2026 theme is "Indian Air Force – Infallible, Impervious and Precise."
Last year's theme was "Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar" (Potent, Powerful, Self-Reliant). It stressed homegrown projects such as the Tejas, AMCA and Light Combat Helicopter.
Indian Air Force Day is celebrated every year on 8 October to mark the official founding of the IAF in 1932. It began as an auxiliary force to assist the Royal Air Force. The day pays tribute to the courage, dedication and sacrifice of all air warriors, including pilots, ground crew and support staff, who protect India's airspace.
Events include a parade and flypast, air shows in Jodhpur and Varanasi, an international exercise and veteran gatherings.
The parade at Hindon will have marching contingents and a full flypast. Aircraft include the Rafale, Su-30MKI, MiG-29, Tejas, C-17 and Apache helicopters. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh will review the parade, and Presidential Awards will follow. Mi-17 helicopters will carry the National Flag, the IAF flag and the Operation Sindoor flag.
A major aerial display will be held at Jodhpur Air Force Station on 8 October. The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team will lead it with coordinated manoeuvres. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to attend with NCC cadets.
A public air show over the Ganga is scheduled for 24, 25 and 26 October 2026. The main day is 25 October, centred on Namo Ghat. Fighter jets, transport aircraft and aerobatic formations will perform. It is described as a historic public display for the region.
The celebrations coincide with Tarang Shakti 2026, an international air exercise from 26 September to 12 October. It helps the IAF and foreign air forces improve coordination and share best practices.
Veteran gatherings and anniversary interactions will be held at Air Force stations and auditoriums in New Delhi.
