Malta will host the 8th Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), to be held at the end of 2027. Athletes aged 14 to 18 will come together, representing 74 countries and territories.
Malta will host eight sports, including swimming and water polo 4x4, in a six-day competition for the Commonwealth Youth Games from October 29 to November 4, 2027, and around 1,200 young athletes from the Commonwealth will participate.
The 2027 edition will be the largest para-sports program in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games so far, further advancing recent progress in inclusive sports.
The competition will be held at seven venues located across Malta and the island of Gozo, with eight sports included in the program.
This event will also mark the debut of both sailing and water polo. The six previously confirmed sports are athletics-para athletics, netball, squash, swimming-para swimming, triathlon, and weightlifting.

The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) is an international multi-sport event in which young athletes aged 14–18 from Commonwealth countries participate.
It began in the year 2000 in Edinburgh (Scotland).
Since 2008, it has been held every four years, and its objective is to provide a global platform to young talent.
The most recent edition, held in 2023 in Trinidad and Tobago, was the largest in the history of the event.
In 2008, its third edition was held in Pune, India, in which 71 countries participated.
The Commonwealth Games, often called the "Friendly Games", began in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada, as the 'British Empire Games'. Held every four years (except 1942 and 1946 due to World War II), 72 countries participate in this event.
The Commonwealth Games are organized by the Commonwealth Games Association based in London, England.
This event focuses on inclusive competition, including para-sports, and is the second largest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics.
The 2022 Games were held in Birmingham, UK, and in 2026 it is planned to be hosted in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games were to be held in Australia. Last year, the Australian government refused to host this event. Now the 2026 Commonwealth Games (23rd edition) will be held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
Australia has hosted the most Games with five editions.
Year 1934: India made its debut in the second edition in London.
Year 1958: Milkha Singh became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal.
Year 2010: India hosted the Games in Delhi and won its highest 101 medals.
