The Indian Air Force's Sarang Helicopter Display Team has reached Egypt to perform at the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow, being held from September 8 to 10 at El Alamein International Airport. This is an important defence current affairs update for exam aspirants, covering IAF international engagements and India-Egypt ties.
The El Alamein International Airshow brings together top air forces along with professionals from the aerospace, defence and space industries worldwide. This year's edition, its second, is being hosted in Egypt from September 8 to 10, 2026. The Sarang team's presence adds a distinctive element to the show and is expected to strengthen ties with the other international display teams taking part. According to the Ministry of Defence, this participation is another milestone in the IAF's growing international engagements and reflects the deepening defence and diplomatic relationship between India and Egypt.
The Sarang team is the world's only five-helicopter display team. It flies the indigenously designed and manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, and is known for its demanding formation flying, close-proximity manoeuvres, and synchronised aerial sequences. In Egypt, the team will perform its signature "Dolphin Leap" manoeuvre along with a newly introduced one called the "Spot Stall Turn."
Formed in 2002, Sarang made its first international appearance in Singapore in 2004 and was ranked among the top 10 display teams at the 2005 Al Ain Aerobatic Show in the UAE. Since then, it has performed at major global airshows, including
Beyond airshows, the team also takes part in domestic events and has supported Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations.
