The Union Ministry of Tourism on the occasion of the World Tourism Day on 27th September 2023 announced the name of the five villages for the Best Rural Tourism Award . The award is given annually to villages for promotion and preservation of their cultural heritage and sustainable development through tourism.
The villages were given awards at a function organsied by the Union Ministry of Tourism at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Earlier at the same function,the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India organised the Global Launch of ‘Travel for LiFE’, a sectoral program under Mission LiFE, targeted towards the tourism sector, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
A total of 35 villages were selected for the awards in three categories . In the Gold category 5 villages were awarded , in the Silver category 10 villages and in the Bronze category 20 villages were awarded .
