Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has officially taken charge as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) of the Indian Air Force. He succeeds Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, who retired after completing 42 distinguished years of service to the nation. Before stepping into the top leadership role, Air Chief Marshal Dixit served as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff.
He brings nearly four decades of expertise in military operations, flight testing, defense planning, and aircraft development to his new office. His appointment marks a vital transition in the leadership of India's armed forces.
An alumnus of the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA), the Indian Air Force commissioned Ashutosh Dixit into its Fighter Stream in 1986. Over his nearly 40-year career, he has built extensive hands-on experience across multiple military defense sectors:
Air Chief Marshal Dixit has played a pivotal role in strengthening India's air power. He directly managed the operational upgrade projects for both the Jaguar and MiG-27 fighter aircraft, extending their combat capabilities and service life.
He also made major contributions to India's homegrown defense industry. He guided the LCA Mk-I Tejas program through its critical Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) and Final Operational Clearance (FOC) milestones. These key clearances certified the indigenous fighter jet for active operational service in the IAF fleet.
Throughout his military service, Air Chief Marshal Dixit has led critical operational airbase commands:
These leadership roles provided him with deep administrative expertise and first-hand experience in combat readiness.
As Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Dixit serves as the highest-ranking officer in the Indian Air Force. He leads overall force planning, directs military operations, and advises the Ministry of Defence on national security strategies. His background in flight testing, aircraft modernization, and airbase management ensures strong leadership as India builds a modern, self-reliant air defense force.
