SSC CPO Selection Process

Before going through the SSC CPO Syllabus and Exam Pattern, it is important to understand the SSC CPO Selection Process. This will help you become aware of each stage and manage your preparation time effectively. The selection process for the SSC CPO consists of four tiers:

1. Computer-Based Test (Paper 1): This is the first stage of the selection process, conducted online. The exam is objective in nature and includes four subjects, having 200 questions for 200 marks, with a duration of 2 hours.
2. Physical Standard Test (PST)/Physical Endurance Test (PET): Candidates who qualify in Paper 1 are called for PET and PST. This stage is qualifying in nature but mandatory to be shortlisted for the Paper 2 stage. The tails of PST and PET are:
   1. PST (Physical Standards Test): Candidates must meet the prescribed height, chest, and weight measurements depending on gender and category.
   2. PET (Physical Endurance Test): This checks physical fitness through running, long jump, high jump, and other tasks. Standards vary for male and female candidates.
3. Computer-Based Test (Paper 2): Candidates who clear PET/PST will then be shortlisted for Paper 2. This exam tests candidates' knowledge of the English Language and Comprehension skills. Paper 2 consists of 200 questions carrying 200 marks with a duration of 2 hours.
4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME): After qualifying in Paper 2, shortlisted candidates are called for a detailed medical examination. Candidates must be in good mental and physical health and free from diseases or disabilities that may hinder duty performance. Vision standards (near and distant vision) of the candidates are also checked at this stage.

​SSC CPO CBT 1 Exam Pattern (Revised)

The SSC CPO Paper 1 Exam pattern has been revised by the Staff Selection Commission. The SSC has introduced sectional timing in CPO Paper 1, which means candidates will now get 30 minutes for each part.

• The SSC CPO Paper I is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), conducted online, and consists of 200 objective-type, multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
• The duration of the exam is 120 minutes (2 hours) divided into four sections of 30 minutes each.
• The SSC CPO CBT consists of 4 subjects – General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.
• All questions (except those of English Language & Comprehension) are set in both English and Hindi.
• For every wrong answer, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

SSC CPO Tier 1 Syllabus - Subject-wise
