A candidate must be:
(i) a citizen of India, or
(ii) a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
(iii) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) or Vietnam, intending to settle permanently in India.

The selection process of SSC JHT is divided into two stages, i.e. Paper-1 and Paper-2, followed by Document Verification Process.
Paper-I (Objective-type): According to the SSC JHT Notification 2026, the Paper-1 computer-based test is divided into two sections.
Section I will consist of 100 General Hindi questions, whereas Section II will consist of 100 General English questions. In each section, there will be 200 questions for a total of 200 marks.
Paper-II (Descriptive): Candidates who pass Paper I will be shortlisted to take Paper II of the SSC JHT. Paper II is divided into two sections: translation and essay writing.
