• Introduction of Sub-Inspector (Fire) in CISF: A new post of Sub-Inspector (Fire) for male candidates has been added with 234 vacancies. The eligibility requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science (with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) or a 3-year Engineering Diploma, with an expanded age limit of 18 to 30 years. 
• Reduction in Paper-I Questions and Sectional Timing: Paper-I has been revised from 200 questions to 100 questions, carrying 100 marks, with a separate sectional timer for each section. The overall duration is reduced to 1 hour (60 minutes), featuring a mandatory 15-minute sectional timer for each of the 4 sections (25 questions each). 
• Multi-Subject Structure for Paper-II: Paper-II is no longer limited to English Comprehension. It now includes Reasoning, General Awareness, and Quantitative Aptitude (20 questions / 40 marks each with a 20-minute timer per part), followed by English Comprehension (100 questions / 200 marks for 60 minutes). 
• Increased Negative Marking in Paper-II: While Paper-I retains a negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer, Paper-II now deducts 0.50 marks for each incorrect response. 
• Revised Final Merit Criteria: As per the updated rules, final merit and force allocation are determined solely on the basis of candidate performance in Paper-II (plus NCC bonus marks) and post preferences. 
• Updated Preference & Centre Selection: Post preference options now range from Code A to G to accommodate CISF (Fire). Additionally, candidates are now required to choose all three exam centre preferences within the same SSC region.

Nationality

An applicant to apply for the SSC CPO position must belong to one of the following categories:

1. A citizen of India, or
2. A subject of Nepal, or
3. A subject of Bhutan.

SSC CPO 2026 Selection Process (Revised)

The SSC CPO Selection Process 2026 has been revised by the Staff Selection Commission. The recruitment process includes Paper-I, PST/PET, Paper-II, and Detailed Medical Examination (DME) & Document Verification (DV). The final merit list will be prepared based on Paper-II marks, along with applicable NCC bonus marks. 

• Stage 1: Paper-I: Candidates first appear for the Computer-Based Examination (Paper-I), which includes General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Candidates who qualify Paper-I are shortlisted for the physical tests 
• Stage 2: PST/PET: Candidates shortlisted after Paper-I undergo the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Endurance Test (PET). This stage is qualifying in nature, and candidates must fulfil the prescribed physical standards and endurance requirements 
• Stage 3: Paper-II: Candidates qualifying the PST/PET appear for Paper-II, which is based on English Language and Comprehension. The marks obtained in Paper-II will be considered for preparing the final merit list 
• Stage 4: DME & DV: Candidates shortlisted on the basis of Paper-II are called for Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Document Verification (DV). Candidates must fulfil the prescribed medical standards and produce the required documents. 

Revised Final Merit: As per the revised selection process, the final merit list and post/force allocation will be based on Paper-II marks, including applicable NCC bonus marks. Candidates must also qualify the PST/PET, DME and DV stages for final selection.
