The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) released the SSC Stenographer Notification 2023 on its official website on 02 August 2023. The SSC Stenographers online application opens on August 2, 2023, and the last day to apply is 23 August 2023. Candidates who have completed their 12th grade and are within the age limit can apply on the SSC website.
According to the SSC notice, the SSC Stenographer 2023 Exam will be held in the month of October 2023. Through this recruitment, the selected candidate will be placed in Group C and D Non-gazetted posts in various Ministries/Departments/Organizations of the Government of India.

To be eligible for this post, the candidate must fulfil either of the nationality criteria:
a citizen of India, or
a subject of Nepal, or
a subject of Bhutan, or
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

The candidates first need to register themselves on the SSC online portal using the link given in this article.
Once registered, log in to the portal using your login credentials (Registration number and password).
Now check “Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination” under the latest notifications.
Click on Apply at the bottom right and fill in the details asked against all the fields.
Upload the scanned Photograph and Signature.
Click on “I Agree” and Enter the Captcha.
To double-check your information, click the Preview button.
After you've finished previewing, click Submit.
To pay the application fee, use these payment gateways.
When you finish filing all the details required, save your final application form and keep a printout for future reference.
Note: Candidates must indicate whether they are applying for SSC Stenographer "Grade C", "Grade D", or both.

Mode of Payment:
Fees can only be paid online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay credit or debit card. Fees paid through any other mode will not be accepted by the commission.
The SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2023 selection process consists of two stages:
Stage I: Computer-Based Examination
The Computer-Based Examination (CBT) will be MCQ-based, having 200 questions for 200 marks. Except for the English language section, the CBT questions will be bilingual (Hindi and English).
Stage II: Skill Test
Candidates will get shortlisted for the skill test based on their performance in the computer-based test. The board will conduct a skill test that will only be qualifying in nature. Candidates should know that the skill test is mandatory, and those who do not take it will not be considered for the final selection.
Final Selection: The final selection and assignment to the various Ministries/Departments under SSC Stenographer Recruitment will include the CBT score and the candidate's preference of Post/Department.

A total of 2 hours will be allotted for taking the exam, with candidates eligible for scribe receiving an additional 2 hours and 40 minutes.
This stage is crucial because the final merit list will be based solely on the CBT Exam.

In the Computer-Based Examination, there will be a negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
Marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Examination will be normalised if held in multiple shifts.
In the Stenography Skill Test, candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as specified by the candidate in the online Application Form) at a speed of:
100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for Stenographer Grade 'C' and
80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade 'D'.

Candidates who choose to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, or their probation may be terminated by the appointing departments/organisations.

Note: There will be no Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data questions in the General Intelligence & Reasoning/General Awareness Paper for VH candidates with 40% or more visual disability.

SSC Steno Admit Card can only be downloaded and printed from the official website. Candidates must have relevant information like Username/Registration Number, Password/Date of Birth etc.
Candidates should know that the SSC will not send a hard copy of their admit card to their home address.
Follow the steps below to download your SSC Stenographer Admit Card for both stages (CBT and Skill Test).

A new window will open in which you must enter your credentials (Registration Number/Password) as well as the captcha.
Click submit to download the admit card that appears on your screen.
Take a printout of the Admit Card as well as the candidate’s instructions page.
Candidates should also remember that the SSC Stenographer Admit Card is the most important document, as no candidate will be admitted to the exam without it.
In addition to the Admission Certificate (Admit Card), you must bring at least two passport-size recent colour photographs, as well as original valid photo-ID proof with your date of birth as it appears on the Admission Certificate, such as-
(i) Aadhaar Card/ Printout of E-Aadhaar,
(ii) Voter’s ID Card,
(iii) Driving License,
(iv) PAN Card,
(v) Passport,
(vi) School/ College ID Card,
(vii) Employer ID Card (Govt./PSU/Private), etc.
(viii) Ex-serviceman Discharge Book issued by Ministry of Defence,

Candidates must note that the minimum qualifying marks in Computer Based Examination are as follows:
(i) UR: 30%
(ii) OBC/EWS: 25%
(iii) All Other Categories: 20%
Also, keep in mind that the minimum qualifying marks and the cut-off marks are not the same, with the cut-off marks being higher.
After each phase of the exam, the commission will release the SSC Stenographer 2023 results separately. The CBT exam result will be announced first, followed by the final result (CBT + Skill Test). The final merit list will be determined based on the marks scored in the SSC CBT, as the skill test is qualifying in nature. Candidates planning to take the SSC Stenographer exam in 2023 should remember the following general guidelines: Examine previous years' questions to learn the pattern and level of difficulty of questions asked in the SSC Stenographer Exam. Examine the topic-by-topic preparation advice and take full-length tests. It is critical to effectively prepare for the SSC Stenographer 2023 Exam if you want to pass the exam on your first attempt. Give as many Mock Test Series as possible to achieve a high score on this paper. Believe in yourself and learn the following two mantras to succeed in the exam: Accuracy and speed.
