SSC Stenographer Recruitment Notification 2024 was issued by the Staff Selection Commission on 26 July 2024. SSC Stenographer Application Form 2024 is out now and eligible candidates can apply from 26 July to 17 August 2024. Only candidates with stenography skills are eligible to apply by visiting the official website of the SSC. To prevent any last-minute technical problems, candidates should submit their applications well before the deadline.

SSC Stenographer Competitive Computer-Based Examination 2024 will be conducted in October/ November 2024 for the direct recruitment of Stenographers Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non-Gazetted) and Stenographers Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’). This examination will be used to fill Stenographer positions in various Ministries, Departments, Organizations, including their Attached offices, Subordinate offices, and Statutory bodies across different States and Union Territories of the Government of India.

SSC Stenographer 2024 Vacancy

A total of 2,006 approximate vacancies are announced by the Staff Selection Commission for the SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2024. The exact number of vacancies will be confirmed later. Updated information, including post-wise and category-wise vacancies, will be posted on the Commission's website in due course. 

The Commission does not collect State-wise or Zone-wise vacancy data. Once the SSC Stenographer Vacancies are announced by the SSC, we will update this section accordingly.

SSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria 2024 

SSC Stenographer Application Form 2024 is out and candidates must check the SSC Steno Notification carefully before submitting their applications. In this section, we are detailing the eligibility criteria for the SSC Stenographer Grade C & D Recruitment:- 

Nationality

To be eligible for this post, the candidate must fulfill either of the nationality criteria:

  • a citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit 

Candidates who want to apply for the SSC Stenographer position must meet the age limit specified in the SSC Stenographer Notification 2024. Check the below table for both Grade C & D Age Limit Criteria:-

Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years of age as of 1 August 2024. This means they must have been born on or after 2 August 1997 and on or before 1 August 2006 to be eligible to apply.

Note: SSC will disqualify candidates from the selection process if candidates fail to submit the required documents to the commission by the reference date.

SSC Stenographer Recruitment Application Process

Applications for the SSC Stenographer 2024 Recruitment can be submitted online until 17 August 2024. Follow these steps to apply:

  1. Go to the Staff Selection Commission's official website.
  2. On the homepage click on the Apply tab and select “Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D' Examination,2024”.
  3. If you haven’t generated your One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website, then first generate the OTR. 
  4. Use your registration number and password to log in.
  5. Look for “Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination” under the latest notifications.
  6. Click on “Apply” at the bottom right and fill out all required fields.
  7. Upload your scanned photograph and signature.
  8. Click “I Agree” and enter the Captcha code.
  9. Review your application by clicking the Preview button.
  10. Once satisfied with your application, click Submit.
  11. Use the provided payment gateways to pay the application fee.
  12. After completing the application, save a copy and print it for your records.

Note: In the application form, please specify whether you are applying for SSC Stenographer "Grade C," "Grade D," or both.

SSC Stenographer Application Fees 2024

Fees can only be paid online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay credit or debit card. Fees paid through any other mode will not be accepted by the commission.

SSC Stenographer Selection Process 2024

The SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2024 selection process consists of two stages:

Stage I: Computer-Based Examination

The Computer-Based Examination (CBT) will be MCQ-based, having 200 questions for 200 marks. Except for the English language section, the CBT questions will be bilingual (Hindi and English).

Stage II: Skill Test

Candidates will get shortlisted for the skill test based on their performance in the computer-based test. The board will conduct a skill test that will only be qualifying in nature. Candidates should know that the skill test is mandatory, and those who do not take it will not be considered for the final selection.

Final Selection: The final selection and assignment to the various Ministries/Departments under SSC Stenographer Recruitment will include the CBT score and the candidate's preference of Post/Department.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2024

Candidates who are going to appear in the SSC Stenographer Exam 2024 should be familiar with the Steno Examination Pattern which will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test. Below we are detailing the SSC Steno Exam Pattern 2024:-

  • A total of 2 hours will be allotted for taking the exam, with candidates eligible for scribe receiving an additional 2 hours and 40 minutes.
  • This stage is crucial because the final merit list will be based solely on the CBT Exam.
  • In the Computer-Based Examination, there will be a negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
  • Marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Examination will be normalized if held in multiple shifts.

Skill Test in Stenography

In the Stenography Skill Test, candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as specified by the candidate in the online Application Form) at a speed of:

  • 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for Stenographer Grade 'C' and
  • 80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade 'D'.

SSC Stenographer Admit Card 2024

The admit cards will be issued by the Staff Selection Commission 3-7 days prior to the SSC Stenographer Exam Date 2024 on the website of the concerned Regional Office of the commission. Check out the following points to learn more about the SSC Stenographer Admit Card.

SSC Steno Admit Card can only be downloaded and printed from the official website. Candidates must have relevant information like Username/Registration Number, Password/Date of Birth etc.  Candidates should know that the SSC will not send a hard copy of their admit card to their home address.

Follow the steps below to download your SSC Stenographer Admit Card for both stages (CBT and Skill Test).

  • Visit the SSC's respective regional website.
  • Click on the "SSC Stenographer Admit Card 2024" link given under the Latest News Section.
  • A new window will open in which you must enter your credentials (Registration Number/Password) as well as the captcha.
  • Click submit to download the admit card that appears on your screen.
  • Take a printout of the Admit Card as well as the candidate’s instructions page.

Candidates should also remember that the SSC Stenographer Admit Card is the most important document, as no candidate will be admitted to the exam without it.

In addition to the Admission Certificate (Admit Card), you must bring at least two passport-size recent colour photographs, as well as original valid photo-ID proof with your date of birth as it appears on the Admission Certificate, such as-

(i) Aadhaar Card/ Printout of E-Aadhaar, 

(ii) Voter’s ID Card, 

(iii) Driving License, 

(iv) PAN Card, 

(v) Passport, 

(vi) School/ College ID Card, 

(vii) Employer ID Card (Govt./PSU/Private), etc.

SSC Stenographer Answer Key 2024

The SSC Stenographer 2024 Answer Key will be uploaded by the SSC after the examination is conducted. Candidates will have the opportunity to challenge the answer key by raising objections against the tentative Answer Keys if they identify any errors. To submit the objections, candidates have to pay a fee of 100 rupees for each objection.

SSC Stenographer Result 2024 

The SSC Stenographer 2024 Result will be announced by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The results will be declared in two stages: the Computer-Based Test (CBT) and the Skill Test. To qualify for the Skill Test, candidates must meet the CBT cutoff set by the Commission. After both stages are completed, the Commission will release the final SSC Stenographer Result.
