India's top (number-1) tennis player Sumit Nagal has reached the second round of the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters. 95th-ranked unseeded Sumit Nagal has now become the third Indian to reach the main draw of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Indians who reached the main draw before Sumit:

  • Before Sumit Nagal, Vijay Amritraj in 1977 and Ramesh Krishnan in 1982 had appeared in the main draw of Monte Carlo.
  • Nagal became the first player to play an ATP Masters 1000 match on clay since 1990. The 26-year-old Nagal stunned 38, he would face Denmark's Holger Rune in the next round on Tuesday, April 9.

  • Sumit Nagal became the first Indian man to win a match in a Masters 1000 tournament on clay courts on 8 April 2024. The top-ranked Indian singles player produced a spectacular comeback effort to defeat Italy's Matteo Arnaldi.
  • Nagal surprised world number 38 Arnaldi Ko in the first round.
  • With this, Nagal registered his third win over a top-50 player. Nagal will face current runner-up Holger Rune of Denmark in the next round.
