Sumit Nagal first Indian to win a ATP Master 1000 match on clay

India's top (number-1) tennis player Sumit Nagal has reached the second round of the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters. 95th-ranked unseeded Sumit Nagal has now become the third Indian to reach the main draw of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Indians who reached the main draw before Sumit:

Before Sumit Nagal, Vijay Amritraj in 1977 and Ramesh Krishnan in 1982 had appeared in the main draw of Monte Carlo.
Nagal became the first player to play an ATP Masters 1000 match on clay since 1990. The 26-year-old Nagal stunned 38, he would face Denmark's Holger Rune in the next round on Tuesday, April 9.

1st Indian to win a match in Masters 1000 tournament on clay court:

Sumit Nagal became the first Indian man to win a match in a Masters 1000 tournament on clay courts on 8 April 2024. The top-ranked Indian singles player produced a spectacular comeback effort to defeat Italy's Matteo Arnaldi.
Nagal surprised world number 38 Arnaldi Ko in the first round.
With this, Nagal registered his third win over a top-50 player. Nagal will face current runner-up Holger Rune of Denmark in the next round.
