Cabinet Approves Continuation of PM-KISAN Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi, approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total financial outlay of Rs. 3.15 lakh crore. The decision reaffirms the government's commitment to farmer welfare through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Cabinet extends PM-KISAN scheme with Rs. 3.15 lakh crore outlay for the 2026-31 period

The Centre gave its nod on Friday to extend the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme for another five years, a call taken at the Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per the official statement released post-meeting, the scheme will now run from 2026-27 through to 2030-31, backed by a total outlay of Rs. 3.15 lakh crore for this period.

The government reiterated that farmer prosperity remains central to the nation's overall growth, with PM-KISAN continuing to deliver timely, transparent income support to eligible farmer families via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, helping them boost agricultural investment and shore up their livelihoods.

What is PM-KISAN Scheme?

Launched in February 2019, PM-KISAN provides eligible landholding farmer families with Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal instalments, transferred directly via DBT using Aadhaar authentication and digital verification.

Key Achievements of the PM-KISAN Scheme

1. Over Rs. 4.47 lakh crore transferred through 23 instalments so far.
2. Under the 23rd instalment, more than 9.49 crore farmers received over Rs. 18,984 crore.
3. Over Rs. 1.71 lakh crore disbursed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
4. Women farmers received more than Rs. 1.06 lakh crore; nearly one in four beneficiaries is a woman.

Positive Impact of PM-KISAN Scheme

NITI Aayog's DMEO evaluation found over 92% of beneficiaries used the funds for agricultural investment, and around 85% reported higher farm income and reduced dependence on informal credit. Between 2020-21 and 2025-26, cultivated area grew by 9.65%, productivity by 10.53%, and total foodgrain production by 21.18%.

The scheme showcases Digital India's efficiency, using Aadhaar-based authentication and DBT to ensure transparent, direct transfers while building farmers' self-reliance.

By boosting agricultural investment and productivity, the scheme's continuation strengthens the rural economy and supports India's Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat goals.
