Ahmedabad to Host BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Demonstration Games 2026 on October 12

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat, will organise the BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games 2026 at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, on October 12, 2026. The event is part of India’s BRICS Chairship.

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya to Open BRICS Traditional Sports Games 2026

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate the Games. Other guests at the opening will include:

• Harsh Sanghavi, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat
• Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports
• Dr. Jayram Gamit, Minister of State for Sports, Gujarat

About the BRICS Traditional Games 2026

Delegations from BRICS member and partner countries will take part. The Games aim to showcase traditional and indigenous sports, promote cultural exchange, protect heritage and build people-to-people ties through sport.

The Games are not a competition. They are a platform to demonstrate, document and exchange traditional sporting practices. The focus is on cultural importance, interaction between practitioners, and sharing of knowledge.

11 countries are participating in the BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Demonstration Games 2026. India’s  Mallakhamb, Yogasana, and Kalaripayattu will be featured in BRICS Traditional Games 2026.

Significance of BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Demonstration Games 2026

Bilateral meetings with the visiting delegations are planned on the sidelines. They will explore ways to strengthen sports cooperation and promote traditional and indigenous games within the BRICS framework. The Games are expected to celebrate the rich sporting heritage of the participating nations and build mutual understanding and stronger ties among BRICS countries.
