India's First CWG Judo Gold: Asmita Dey, Harsh Singh Win Historic Golds

India enjoyed its finest hour in judo at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 31 July, as Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh delivered the country's first-ever judo golds at the event, while Yamini Mourya added a silver. The historic evening lifted India's overall CWG judo medal count past the eleven it had won across all previous editions.

Asmita Dey wins India's first Commonwealth Games judo gold

In the women's -48kg category, Asmita won her opening bout by ippon against Scotland's Eva Ewing, then beat compatriot Summer Shaw 2-0. In the final, she trailed Canada's Heidi Quach 0-1 before levelling the contest and sealing gold 2-1 by yuko in golden score. Visibly emotional afterwards, she dedicated the win to her late father, recalling how her mother sent her back to training just ten days after his passing.

Harsh Singh Wins Historic Judo Gold

Harsh Singh, a 23-year-old Army Havildar from Delhi and a product of the Army Judo Node, dominated the men's -60kg draw with ippon and waza-ari victories, defeating Australia's Joshua Katz 10-1 in the final. 

Yamini Mourya Wins Silver In CWG 2026 Judo

Yamini Mourya, 28, from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, reached the women's -57kg final in just over two minutes of combined bout time but lost to Turkey's Acelya Toprak on shidos in golden score, settling for silver.
