Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar inaugurated a new defence system Precision Approach Radar (PAR) in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Naval Chief inaugurated the PAR at INS Utkrosh located in the South Andaman Islands.
The Naval Chief was on his 3-day (6 to 9 February 2024) visit to the strategic tri-service command to strengthen the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC).
About Precision Approach Radar (PAR):
The Precision Approach Radar is manufactured by a Chennai company.
PAR will be helpful in safely landing the aircraft in low visibility conditions like heavy rain and fog.
The PAR will provide highly accurate horizontal and vertical guidance even in low visibility.
IUHDSS launched in Port Blair:
Integrated Underwater Harbor Defence and Surveillance System (IUHDSS) was also inaugurated at Naval Jetty, Port Blair to enhance the security posture of Naval Chief Port Blair.
The IUHDSS is capable of detecting, identifying and tracking surface and underwater targets in the vicinity of Naval Dockyards. This will help in further enhancing the security of Port Blair port.
Purpose of Navy Chief ANC's visit:
The Naval Chief's visit to Andaman and Nicobar Command was aimed at assessing and enhancing the operational capabilities of India's only operational Joint Services Command.

Support of India's 'Act East' policy and his contribution to the region.
Foundation stone of sailors' residence in Vijay Baugh:
During his visit, Admiral Kumar laid the foundation stone of sailors' accommodation at Vijay Baugh. Also inaugurated several other major facilities aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the ANC.
Naval Communication Network (NCN) Center inaugurated:
The Naval Chief also inaugurated Naval Communication Network (NCN) centers during his visit to the Northern and Southern Islands units of the ANC. This center has been established in three major ships of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) which mainly
INS Kohasa
INS Baz
INS Cardip.
According to the Navy Chief, these centers will now enhance communication and situational awareness. This center will help to promote 'jointness' among the tri-services in operations in the ANC.
Kala Hari Kumar, who is traveling with Navy Chief Admiral Kumar, inaugurated the 'Saksham' VC facility at a special event in Port Blair. The 'Saksham' VC facility consisting mainly of wives of ANC personnel was established at the Navy Children School, Port Blair.
