On 29 September 2026, the Indian Army carried out Exercise Jai Se Vijay near the India-Pakistan International Border in Rajasthan. A stretch of National Highway-911 near Dantour was turned into a temporary runway for helicopters. The exercise was conducted by the Sapta Shakti Command, also called the South Western Command.
The exercise was held under the theme "Mission Ready, Future Ready". It shows that the Army wants to stay fully prepared today while building the flexibility needed for future battlefield situations.
The drill aimed to test:
Three helicopters of the Army Aviation Corps took part and performed precision landings and take-offs on the highway.
These helicopters are used for reconnaissance, transport, casualty evacuation and support missions.
In border areas, airbases or helipads may be unavailable, damaged or unsuitable during an emergency. A prepared highway can then work as an extra landing option. The highway was regulated for the drill and safety procedures were followed. The desert setting also made the task tough, because strong winds, blowing sand, heat and poor visibility affect flying.
Dual-use infrastructure means facilities that serve both civilians and the military. Highways like NH-911 carry normal traffic but can also support aircraft when needed. This gives the forces more flexibility without depending only on permanent military bases. It also helps in moving troops, equipment and supplies quickly and in dispersing assets, which is important for forces along the western border.
