The National Archives of India has acquired the scientific papers and other collections of the noted scientist Dr. Ram Bux Singh from his family to preserve it for posterity. The collection consists of Dr Ram Byx Singh’s credentials, as well as a substantial collection of extracts from journals, newspapers attesting to his unique contributions. The collection also contains files, framed pictures, original identification cards and a collection of books in Hindi and English.
Late Scientist Dr Ram Bux Singh was born in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is internationally known for his work in the field of biogas (also known as gobar gas in India)technology.
Dr Ram Bux Singh was tasked by the Government of India in 1955 to simplify the construction of biogas plants.
For almost 18 years he was the head of Asia's first Gobar Gas Research Centre in Ajitmal, Auriya district of Uttar Pradesh . He is known for designing a simple , low cost gobar gas plant for individual and community use. He was considered to be the foremost authority on gobar gas plants in the world.
Biogas is produced when organic matter which has high nitrogen content like food or animal waste like cow dung etc is broken down by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen.
The waste material is enclosed so that it does not come into contact with oxygen. This process is called anaerobic digestion.
Methane gas is produced due to anaerobic digestion . It can be used to cook food, power the farm machinery etc. The slurry of the bio gas plant is an excellent source of fertilisers .
The National Archive of India was set up in March 1891 at Calcutta as the Imperial Record Department. Later it was transferred to New Delhi in 1911.
National Archive of India is the biggest archival repository in South Asia.
