Renowned Indian cricketer and ardent amateur golfer Kapil Dev has been elected as the new president of the Professional Golf Tour of India(PGTI).
He was elected after the previous president, H Srinivasan, withdrew his candidature for the President’s post.
Kapil Dev, the captain of the 1983 Men’s Cricket World Cup winning team has been the vice president and member of PGTI's governing body for the last three years.
Kapil Dev, nicknamed Haryana Hurricane for his all-around cricket ability, was also the Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Invitational host for the past three years.
Kapil Dev has played a pivotal role in developing professional golf in the country by being a member of the Professional Golf Tour of India.
The Professional Golf Tour of India was formed in 2006 as a successor to the Indian PGA (Professional Golf Association) Tour.
It is the governing body of men’s professional golf in India and organises professional golf tournaments in India.
Louis Kimber of the English County side Leicestershire smashed 43 runs in an over of Sussex’s bowler Ollie Robinson to create a record in first-class matches. It was the highest run scored in an over in English first-class cricket and the second-highest in the world.
On the fourth and final day of the Division Two County Championship played at Hove, Sussex, on 26 June 2024, Louis Kimber came to bat at number 8 position for his team.
Ollie Robinson, who has played 20 test matches for England, bowled a nine-ball over to Louis Kimber, which included three no-balls. Kimber hit the England pacer for five sixes, three fours and took a single. The 13th over of Robinson read as 6, 6nb, 4, 6, 4, 6nb, 4, 6nb, 1.
Previously, Alex Tudor of Surrey County conceded 38 runs in a first-class match against Lancashire in 1998. Andrew Flintoff scored 34 runs of the 38 runs scored in Alex Tudor’s over.
Alex Tudor's record was equalled this week when Surrey’s Dan Lawrence scored 38 runs off Worcestershire's bowler Shoaib Bashir.
However, the record for bowling the costliest over in a first-class match goes to former New Zealand off-break bowler Vert Vance. Vert Vance was hit for 77 runs in an over in New Zealand’s domestic first-class Shell Trophy game between Wellington and Canterbury in the 1989-90 season. Vert Vance bowled 17 no balls in the over.
