India Joins US and 24 Nations in Global 6G Initiative

India has become part of a 25-country international initiative led by the United States to develop next-generation 6G network technology on 7th September, 2026. The move aims to build telecommunication networks that are faster, more secure, and better equipped to support future innovation, with the announcement coming after a meeting between Indian and US commerce officials.

From 5G India Joins International 6G Effort

The US Department of Commerce shared India's participation through a post on X. According to the announcement, the goal of this joint effort is to ensure 6G networks reflect shared security priorities, boost global competitiveness, and drive innovation as countries move beyond 5G.

The Bharat 6G Alliance has set a target of rolling out 6G technologies in India by 2030, with formal technical specifications expected to start taking shape from 2027 onward.
