Three UAE-Based Indians Join 65 International Skydivers to Set Guinness World Record

Three UAE-based Indians took part in a historic skydiving feat over Benghazi, Libya, on August 7, 2026, joining 65 international skydivers to set a new Guinness World Record. Guinness World Records officially confirmed the achievement on August 14, just ahead of India's Independence Day.
The three Indian participants were Jamsheer Thanalot from Kannur, Kerala; Abhishek Rawat from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh; and Isha Raj from Patna, Bihar. All three are part of the skydiving community based in the UAE and travelled to Libya on August 5, completing three trial jumps before being cleared for the final attempt. Together, the trio had a combined experience of over 1,500 jumps. The larger group included skydivers from around 38 different nationalities.
Coordinating such a large formation jump is technically demanding; skydivers need to manage exit order, fall rate, and spacing carefully since oversized flags can interfere with parachute deployment if not handled correctly.
During the jump, the Indian participants proudly unfurled the Tricolor, adding a patriotic touch to the record attempt, coming just days before India's Independence Day on August 15. The aircraft used for the jump, the Ilyushin Il-76TD, is a Soviet-designed transport aircraft commonly used for heavy-lift and airdrop operations, making it well suited for large-group parachute exits like this one.
