The Afghanistan A men’s cricket team defeated the Sri Lankan A side by seven wickets to win the ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. The 6th ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 final was played at Al Almerat, Oman, on 27 October 2024.
The Asian Cricket Council organised the 6th ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Oman from 18-27 October 2024. It was for the first time that the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup was held in T20 format.
The regular test players of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan do not participate in the ACC Emerging Team Asia Cup tournament.
It was the first title win for Afghanistan’s A team in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Afghanistan team made it to the final by defeating India A in the semi-final, while Sri Lanka A team defeated Pakistan Shaheens in the other semi-final.
In the final, Sri Lanka A captain Nuwanidu Fernando won the toss and decided to bat first. The Sri Lankan team could make only 133 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sahan Arachchige was the top score for Sri Lanka with 64 not out in 47 balls.
Afghanistan A side scored the necessary 134 runs in the 18.1 overs with the loss of three wickets, thus winning the match by seven wickets. Sediqullah Atal was the top scorer for Afghanistan with an unbeaten 55 runs.
Awards
Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar of Afghanistan was the Player of the match for his fine bowling of 2 for 14 runs.
Sediqullah Atal of Afghanistan was declared player of the series for his 368 runs in the tournament.
The 6th ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup was held in T-20 format, and eight Asian teams participated.
Tilak Verma, who has represented India in four ODIs and 16 T20Is, led the Indian side, consisting mainly of Indian Premier League (IPL) players.
India was in Group B along with Pakistan Shaheens, United Arab Emirates A and Oman A.
Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A and Hong Kong A were in Group A.
From Group B, India A and Pakistan Shaheen and from Group A, Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A qualified for the semi-finals.
The ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup is organised by the Asian cricket governing body Asian Cricket Council. The first ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup was organised in 2013 in Singapore. The first five ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup were organised in 50 overs formats. The 6th was held in the T-20 format.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the most successful teams in the tournament, having won twice.
