The 24th World Sustainable Development Summit 2025 concluded in New Delhi on 7th March 2025. The World Sustainable Development Summit, which claims to be the only independently convened international summit on sustainable development and environment in the Global South, was held in New Delhi from 5-7 March 2025.
The Summit provides a platform for thought leaders, heads of state and government, scholars, corporates, youth groups, and civil society to discuss issues related to sustainable development and climate change and suggest innovations and solutions.
This year, the Prime Minister of Guyana, Brigadier Mark Phillip, Brazil’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, and other experts from the field of environment attended the summit.
The term Global South, coined by Carl Oglesby in 1969, refers to the poor, underdeveloped, and developing countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, excluding South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
Sustainable Development refers to the judicious use of natural resources to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
The term Sustainable Development was coined by the report “Our Common Future”.
The report was presented by the World Commission on Environment and Development, established by the United Nations and chaired by Gro Harlem Brundtland, the former Prime Minister of Norway.
