PM Modi Launches ₹21,800 Cr Pune Metro Line 3 Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for major Pune Metro projects via video conferencing. Together, these transformative transit initiatives cost nearly ₹21,800 crore.

During the event, the Prime Minister dedicated Pune Metro Line 3—popularly known as the Pink Line—to the nation. Constructed at a cost exceeding ₹8,300 crore, the line marks a major step forward in upgrading public transportation across Pune.

Route Details of the New Pink Line

The Pink Line stretches 23 kilometers from Maan to the District Court Metro station. It connects the bustling Hinjewadi IT hub directly to Shivajinagar, easing the daily commute for thousands of tech professionals, students, and residents.

By integrating into the existing Metro network, the line allows commuters to transfer between routes effortlessly. It will significantly cut down private vehicular traffic, ease congestion on main arteries, and help curb city air pollution.

Special Features of the Pink Line

The Pink Line introduces two groundbreaking features:

• All-Women Train Operators: Women will operate 100% of the trains on this route. This milestone marks the first Metro line in India driven exclusively by female operators, encouraging women's empowerment in public infrastructure.
• Clean Energy Integration: Solar power will supply nearly 30 percent of the total electricity required to run the line, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Foundation Stone Laid for Phase-II Projects

Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for Phase-II of the Pune Metro, which carries an estimated cost of ₹13,500 crore. Phase-II expands the metro network across four key corridors:

1. Line 2A (Vanaz to Chandani Chowk): Spans part of a combined 12.75 km extension along the east-west corridor.
2. Line 2B (Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi): Completes the 12.75 km extension, improving connectivity to growing tech and residential sectors in Kharadi and Wagholi.
3. Line 4 (Kharadi to Khadakwasla): Covers a major 25.52 km stretch across dense urban pockets.
4. Line 4A (Nal Stop to Manik Baug): Spans 6.12 km to link key residential hubs.

Key Regions and Areas Set to Benefit

The new corridors will link important commercial, cultural, and residential hubs across Pune, including:

• Hinjewadi, Shivajinagar, Kharadi, Magarpatta, and Hadapsar
• Swargate, Manik Baug, Nanded City, Pune Cantonment, and Warje

These extensions integrate smoothly with intercity bus terminals and major transit hubs at Swargate, Nal Stop, and Kharadi Bypass, building an interconnected, seamless urban transit network.
