Tawang Hosts 14th International Tourism Mart 2026: Key Concepts

High-altitude city of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh hosts the 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM) 2026 from October 29 to 31, 2026. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organizes this three-day flagship event at Hotel Vivanta, Tawang, in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and seven other North Eastern States.

Essential Administrative & Geographical Concepts:

1. Act East Policy Alignment: The International Tourism Mart serves as a soft-power pillar under India's Act East Policy, positioning the North Eastern Region as a natural gateway to Southeast Asian trade and cultural tourism.
2. Protected Area Permit (PAP) & Restricted Area Permit (RAP): Regulated under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958. Non-Indian citizens require a PAP to visit protected border areas (including parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Nagaland). Technical sessions during ITM 2026 evaluate streamlining these access permits to boost eco-tourism.
3. Inner Line Permit (ILP): An official travel document issued under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873, authorizing Indian citizens from other states to enter designated border states (Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Manipur).
